Art Of The (Taking My Money) State: A Bitter Follow up

So i recieved a letter in the mail from the Harrisburg Arts Council stating my artwork was NOT accepted into the show ART OF THE STATE: PA State Art Show. I’m a bit bitter because any show that has a entry fee is taking the artists money . It’s a sneaky way to bilk money from someone with the pretense of showcase and representation. I understand there are costs to produce these shows but I would feel less disdain if I got my $25 back with my letter of rejection. they accepted. Here is the Math of the show based on my letter. 1834 artist entered with a $25 fee=45,850$ net! They selected 140 artists=$3500! Would it be safe to assume the show costs nowhere near $45,850 to run?

One Painting Entered Into Art Of The State, PA

I decided to go big and try for a spot in the 2012 Pennsylvania art show, Art Of The State. My work must be accepted and I will find out some time in March. I feel lucky and the work I entered is well received among local patrons. I will keep the site posted when I get the verdict in the mail.

Today I entered artwork into into a members show. The opening is 2-19-12. The theme is abstract artwork, and I have plenty of that.

Three Works Sold

I sold Three paintings on 2-14-12. I had to rearrange my apartment to turn it back into a Kijak gallery. The visit went well and the collector got to learn what inspires my creative process. The works sold include the titles ‘Ode To Mr. Oizo, Examples Of Syncopation in the Work Of Frank Zappa and Buddy Rich, and The Similarities’. All Mixed media. A good start to the year!

New Stone Tool

I decided to try something a bit different. I used pine pitch and sinew to adhere a one and a half inch obsidian blade I recently knapped to a dried marker to create a figurative and literal weapon. My art has never been so dangerous! Check out ‘Weapon Of Art‘ on Stone Knapping page

Thank you for visiting! Here are a few of my current projects.

I have five 2d paintings in the works. One piece will be entered in the BAA member show ‘Driven To Abstraction’ from February 5th to the 25th at the Wyomissing Institute of Arts.

I have also been stone sculpting, aka flint knapping, making stone knifes and arrowheads. My various blades are made from Jasper, Agate, Obsidian, glass, and Quartzite. I have been inserting the blades into wood, bone, and antler as handles. Pictures coming soon!
